REVAMP?!?

Sorry for no recent updates, I've been contemplating a Full revamp to a more simplistic site, looking to incorporate HTML5 w/CSS. Thoughts and input would be helpful, I'd most likely keep the WP blog rolls and run other site topics out of sub domains i.e. http://wp.darricklazo.com

Posting to Post

Its been quite sometime since I've had a chance to write up a post, so here goes a quick little blurb, though I know little to no one reads these... it just felt about right to randomly have my thoughts out there. This last month has bee pretty busy with work and family. I'm free of the retail environment and now have a day to devote on working on creative projects, and doing things that I need to be doing - like spending time with the people I care about. Tragedy has struck around me yet again, and though you might not know that person very well, seeing your friends enduring that pain hurts too. Empathy is something that I had learned the meaning of, but hadn't really began to truly understand until this year. I've learned to really live in the moment, enjoy life, not to worry, and tell the people you love - that you love them. I know this post is a best, all over the place - but it's nice to put things like that out there. On the lighter side of life, I'm really looking forward to push hard towards my goals, both new and old, all the while making lasting impressions and some good friends.

Free Time

Feeling good! I have recently made a few decisions to free up my weekend schedule. And by that I mean, actually having some days off for once. It didn't take much convincing to land on it being a good idea to free up my Sundays. Its definitely more important to have that extra day to spend with family and friends, and not miss out on the moments that define us. Not to mention that that, I also plan to devote some of that reclaimed time to advancing my career and achieving personal goals. All and all, it felt like this has been a long time coming and the appropriate next step in my life. There are definitely many more things that are important than being a workaholic, there's already plenty of time to do that. Again, I can't be grateful enough to my friends and family for giving me all the support I could ask for - in every decision I make. I look forward to posting about my new endeavors in the near future.

Business Cards

Front

Back

New business cards have been printed, after a few different renditions and color choices.  Still looking to fix and or change the banner on the start page of the site, as soon as I can get some time to do that.   Like always let me know what you think.  Obviously this images are the web versions and do not have my phone number listed, as per damn phone spammers.

New Banner

New banner is up on the main page of www.darricklazo.com not particularly optimized, still working out the kinks, but wanted to get it up anyway.  Like usual, feedback is good.

Apple Certified Pro

After some rigorous cramming I passed the Final Cut Pro 7 Level One certification exam.  I'm hoping this will expand my resume and land me more 'gigs.'  Pass the word onto all your friends, family, and colleagues in need of some post work, cause it's official - I'm now certified (on top of the BA in Cinema and Television Arts in the Film Production Option with an Emphasis on Post).  Avid and FCP aren't too different, just terms - price, power. All the same idea - its what the editor/artist do that really makes the difference.

Day By Day…

"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice." - Cherokee Proverb

This quote ranks as one of the highest of my favorites, I feel that it truly epitomizes how life should be led.  In just over 1 year, I've been unfortunate in having lost two friends who have really had an impact on my life.  One of them being my fraternity brother, friend, inspiration, and all around source of everyone's joy - Jourdan Van Zeebroeck.  And recently my very good friend, the free-spirited, all-smiles, marching to the beat of her own drum - Kristin Marie Norris.  To me both of them truly lived by this quote, and have left an indelible effect on not only my life, but the lives of all the people they've met.  In the recent days, I've had a number of sleepless nights reminiscing on the instances and the moments that at the time didn't seem too incredibly special - but after all has been said and done, really meant the most.  Through these unfortunate circumstances, we grow and learn.  I've learned that we should really cherish all that we have been given - both physical and metaphysical.  Each and every moment should be lived to its utmost capacity, whilst being forever grateful for every bit of those moments.  Be the tiny drop in the pond that makes ever-growing waves effecting all that surrounds it.

In Loving Memory of
Jourdan Van Zeebroeck
&
Kristin Marie Norris

On the Up & UP!

Thought I'd make a quick post to the blog, update; wrist though sprained is feeling much better and I'm going to try to train tomorrow, feeling not so sick anymore, and most importantly I not only caught up to the previous set goals for studying but surpassed them today by doing three chapters.  Though a small milestone in conquering the dreaded FCP exam, I'm feeling much accomplished and the possibility of taking the exam before I return to work has grown a considerable amount.  Even though this isn't a full fledged post - it works for me, and that's what's important.  Set up goals and then achieve them, I hope that's the key to my future success.
