Relaxed already…
We arrived in downtown Pamplona at 6:30 and immediately made our way to our perch on the wooden railings. We met fellow Americans from Pittsburgh, PA – one of them decided to join the run. After the running happened in the blink of an eye, we followed the path to the bullring and saw some very exciting bull taunting and dodging, unfortunately one man seemed to have been knocked unconscious by a rambunctious young bull. Following that excitement, we bought our train tickets to Madrid, window shopped several festival stands and souvenir shops, and then had a delicious glass of Sangria with a nice spread of several tapas. We’re currently back at the hotel taking our siesta and will return downtown this evening in hope of attending the bullfights – after all, Sarah & I are both CSUN Matador alum.
Day 1 ham flavored chips.
After almost missing one of our connecting flights and having an extended layover for our last flight, we managed to check in the hotel. After checkin we napped and then headed to the grocery store to stock up on snacks and bottled water. The Holiday Inn Express in Pamplona is pretty nice, and we’re scheduled to take their shuttle service on the first trip of the day to the Running of the bulls, and all the San Fermin Festival activities. The energy here is high and I expect to be squeezed in the crowd tomorrow. No worries, we’ll blend in with our white shirts and embroidered red neckerchiefs. Maybe I should wear my knee brace tomorrow?
